Court or legal interpreting takes place in courts of justice, administrative tribunals, solicitors’ offices and legal chambers. Court or legal interpreting can take the form of consecutive interpreting of witness statements, for example, or simultaneous interpreting of the entire proceedings.
It is important that court or legal interpreters have a thorough knowledge of legal terms and court procedures. The Courts Service prefers interpreters to hold the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI), a professional qualification which requires interpreters to have sufficient knowledge and the interpreting techniques required to work in the courts.
Business Language Services Ltd. is committed to the DPSI and aims, wherever possible, to provide court interpreters who hold this or similar professional qualifications. It may not be possible to do this for every language required (the DPSI does not exist for all languages required by the courts).
Furthermore, please note that many of our court and legal interpreters have undertaken Criminal Records Bureau checks and are accustomed to working with vulnerable individuals and/or in sensitive situations.
It is recommended that you book as soon as relevant dates are known to ensure interpreter availability.
If you would like further information or would like to book a court or legal interpreter please contact us or phone 02920 667666.
